Open — cutoff time / timezone to confirm

Deadline

30 November 2026; no verified closing time or time zone. Notification is 31 December; the event is 20 February 2027 at Carlton Cinema, Toronto. Do not assume 23:59 Toronto time.

Entry fee

Only Regular is displayed: $9 standard, $9 student and $8 Gold. Currency is unconfirmed; neither a Canadian venue nor the platform’s USD festival payouts establish the entry currency. Check discounts, extras and refunds. No early-bird price was established.

Official requirements

  • The current FilmFreeway category is AI Short film: a short created using AI, in any genre. No uniform AI percentage, all-AI-only condition or compulsory tool brand was established.
  • The film must be strictly under seven minutes, not seven minutes or less. Treatment of opening titles and end credits is unconfirmed; resolve it before paying.
  • Use the current official FilmFreeway route. Regular standard and student prices are both $9, with $8 for Gold. We did not test sign-in, upload, payment or receipt; this checklist is not an accepted entry.

Our preparation tips

  • Prepare a concise enquiry with your category, completion date, age and country of residence, dialogue language and total runtime. Ask the organiser to confirm eligibility, credit timing, subtitles and the permitted AI/hybrid workflow. Film Atlas does not need your identity documents, film or payment data.
  • Record the story, opening-title and end-credit durations separately, then total the submitted export. Near seven minutes, obtain a written counting rule or consider a shorter cut. A total of 420 seconds or more needs clarification; possible credit exclusions are not acceptance.
  • Keep a one-page AI-use record: tools, tasks, relevant shots/sounds, human choices/revisions and licence evidence. Describe actual contributions. This is preparation advice, not a verified compulsory percentage report or official template.
  • Check the currency code, final amount and fee information at checkout before committing. Retain a receipt or screenshot. Student and standard prices are equal; verify Gold status and membership cost instead of buying a subscription for the displayed $1 difference alone.
  • Prepare a reviewable film, concise synopsis, director biography, poster and manually checked subtitles as useful working materials. Confirm the actual required attachments and specifications in the live form; these recommendations are not established compulsory uploads.
  • Review music, voice, likeness, asset and tool permissions with co-rightsholders, alongside premiere/exclusive-distribution commitments elsewhere. Keep project, payment, final-submission and acknowledgement records separately; successful payment alone is not a completed entry.

Still to confirm

  • Exact cutoff/time zone, settlement currency, tax/payment/conversion extras, Gold eligibility, refunds/withdrawal and any waiver. No early-bird amount or deadline was established; other events cannot supply one.
  • Age, nationality/residence, completion year, individual/team authority and entry limits. Promotional references to global filmmakers do not replace full eligibility terms.
  • Whether titles/credits count toward seven minutes; any minimum, subtitle language, audio, resolution/codec, screener/final delivery and actual attachments.
  • AI proportion, live-action/hybrid and assistance boundaries, disclosure method and process evidence. A workflow answer does not prove the missing conditions.
  • Premiere and previous-publication/award eligibility; complete screening, publicity and online-distribution permissions, duration, territory, sublicensing and withdrawal. No requirement to self-publish a full-film social post was established, nor was prior release confirmed harmless.
  • Live upload, checkout, duplicate entries and acknowledgement were not tested. Award names do not establish cash prizes or a guaranteed screening; organiser operations and delivery need separate judgement.
