The Whale Song Team on Character Texture, Performance Prompts and Shot Design (new tab)
Wallstreetcn’s Zheng Minfang interviews Zhong Qiling and Chen Shuo · Wallstreetcn · 2026.08.11
Read the article (new tab)WallstreetcnThe team prioritises script, character and shot preparation before video generation. The interview explains facial texture, performance prompts and adapting shot design to unstable results.
- Character images: specify height, hair and clothing, compare variants, then refine skin texture and facial details before animation.
- Performance: describe hand movement, gaze and timing together. The fish-tank example combines movement speed with where the character looks and their state of mind.
- Close-ups serve both dramatic pressure and production reliability; the choice is not explained by model limits alone.
- Revise staging: split unstable complex shots and rebuild relationships in editing. Selected start/end frames and longer generation help control fast camera moves.
- Preparation took longer than generation. The reported roughly RMB 3,000 covers AI generation, not a full budget including labour, equipment and all finishing.
