You have the kit. What comes next?

Edited 22 October 2026. General guidance, not a verification of current event rules. Use alongside files 00, 01 and 02.

The Last Light is a fictional exercise, not a completed film or an award winner. These lessons do not verify current event rules.

A kit contains 33 files, including different languages and formats of the same material. You are not expected to fill in or upload every file. The organiser’s form determines what you must submit.

1. Check eligibility before writing

Read 01-Event-Brief for the correct edition and category. Check age or residency, completion date, runtime, AI or tool requirements, public-release restrictions, fees and the deadline’s time zone. Ask the organiser about unresolved conditions; missing information does not mean there is no restriction. Record conflicting rules rather than choosing whichever suits your film.

2. Create one project fact sheet

Use 03-Project-Info to keep the official titles, credits, final runtime, completion date, viewing link and release history consistent. Match the link’s access settings to the organiser’s requirements. Check your intended festivals before publishing the film online.

Our fictional exercise is The Last Light, an animated drama short with a sample runtime of 04:20. There is no completed film or award behind it. It is a writing exercise, not a submission or success story.

3. Draft three different pieces of writing

04-Logline-Synopsis explains what happens. 05-Directors-Statement explains your creative choices. 06-AI-Disclosure records where AI was used and what people contributed. Keep their facts consistent while giving each document its own purpose.

4. Collect evidence and delivery assets

Track progress in 02-Materials-Checklist.xlsx and record inputs and permissions in 07-Rights-Clearance.xlsx. Use files 08 and 09 to check the final export and screening history. Include a cover letter only when the application requests or permits one. Marking a row complete does not establish eligibility, clear rights or confirm a successful submission.

5. Prepare clean submission copy

Remove instructions, blank lines and placeholders. Follow the organiser’s field limits and attachment formats. Submit only the requested material, then save the receipt and the exact version supplied. PDFs are for reading; Word and Excel files are working templates. Check formatting after opening or exporting them in another application.

Full event ZIPs are currently free with a signed-in account; public previews remain open. Signing in or downloading does not subscribe you to a newsletter or deadline notifications. Check the service’s actual availability and make any subscription choice separately.

Use this with your event kit

Replace the fictional facts with your own records. Remove teaching notes and follow the organiser’s current form before submitting.
